DigiMedia Project Roles
Here are some, but not all, of the roles in any given DigiMedia project:
Producer– timelines/deadlines/overall view of the project, keeps groups on task
Director – in charge of making camera decisions (which shots need to be taken, calls “action” and “cut” and “wrap”); decides if a scene needs to be reshot (can discuss with the producer as well);
Assistant Director- Has a clipboard with the storyboard and/or script. Checks off shots as they are filmed to help the director know what shot is next. Helps find and organize any actors involved in each shot.
Camera person– in charge of making sure the lens cap is off and the camera is properly recording. not recording over old material, etc. knows how to use basic functions of camera. learning how to use; keeps camera steady; says “Rolling” so that the director can say “Action!”; responsible for returning camera, cleaning the lens, turning the camera OFF, and getting footage into a shared folder so that the team can use it.
Lights– handles and takes care of lighting on the set. uses EXTREME care in use of the high wattage lights. learns the basic safety tips. make sure lights are plugged into a power strip and then makes sure they are all off and moved away when finished with a shoot; wears safety gloves when using the hot lights;
Actor– someone who says the lines, memorizes parts, and does whatever the director asks them to do. must be flexible and able to take instructions and suggestions from the director; keeps acting until the director says “Cut!”
Fact Checker – Check to makes sure all information is spelled correctly, and that facts or straight BEFORE we finalize a script or video. Doing this early on makes for less problems in the final product.
Graphic Design_ does the graphic design for the team using Gimp or other graphics program
Sound Engineer- Checks for good sound quality; records “room tone”,
Script Writer – writes the script, spell checks
Grip – Helps move wires, gets needed items from other locations, moves and stores props, knows where the tapes, cameras, lights, etc are.
