Idle Game Project

Design the look and levels for your OWN custom IDLE GAME!!

What is an idle game you ask?  Some people call them “clicker games” or “incremental games“.

Some of the most famous you already know:  Cookie Clicker, Clicker Heroes, and Mr. Guiles own Chuck Puncher (which barely works now, but you can still sort of click on a few things).

In fact, I built Chuck Puncher using some code that the maker of Cookie Clicker (Orteil) set up.

He has a much newer Idle Game Maker here.

BUT FIRST!!!  You need an IDEA.  Create an original game idea by thinking about all the games you like.  What are their upgrades like?  What are they CLICKING all the time?  What do they make when they click?  What do you do to improve your clicking power?  These are the things that make the games so much fun (and addictive) to play.

Tutorial 1:  How To Create A Simple Background and “Frame” for Your Game

  • Idle Game Requirements (2019)
    • Must have LAYERS
    • Layers must have NAMES
    • All objects (images to be clicked on) must have their OWN LAYER
    • Text must be on it’s OWN LAYER.
    • All layers MUST BE NAMED.
    • MUST HAVES
      • See the sample projects here: Idle Game Ideas (not all sample projects meet these requirements, but they give you an idea of what to aim for)
      • The THING you are clicking on (the Cookie like in Cooke Clicker)
      • Each Store Item MUST have an accompanying image (Cursors, Grammas, Cookie Farm, etc)
      • Each item must have TEXT next to it and a price/cost
      • The TITLE of your game must be prominently featured somewhere on the screen (usually the top of the screen)

Here are student examples.  These were just the designs, but they had great ideas!  Come up with your OWN great idea.
